Privacy Policy
The short version: we don't sell your data, we don't run ad networks, and we don't want your personal information. This page explains exactly what happens when you visit.
Who we are
Cold Bore Index ("we," "us") operates coldboreindex.com, a website that points readers to firearm parts, optics, and accessories sold by third-party retailers. We are not a retailer and we do not sell anything ourselves.
What we collect
Analytics
We use Plausible Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they read. Plausible is a privacy-focused service that does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track you across other websites. It reports aggregate numbers only — page views, referring sites, and general country-level location. We cannot identify you from it.
We also record which outbound product links get clicked, so we know which gear readers find useful. This is counted anonymously and is not tied to any individual.
Email address (only if you give it)
If you sign up for drop alerts, we store the email address you enter. We use it for one purpose: sending you notifications about the site. We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with anyone. You can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing hello@coldboreindex.com — no explanation needed.
Local storage on your device
The build sheets let you check off parts as you buy them. Those checkmarks are saved in your own browser's local storage, on your own device. That information never reaches us. Clearing your browser data erases it.
Affiliate links and cookies
Most product links on this site are affiliate links. When you click one, the retailer or its affiliate network (such as AvantLink) may place a cookie in your browser to record that you arrived from us. If you then buy something, we may earn a commission.
That cookie is set by the retailer's network, not by us. We never see your payment details, shipping address, order contents, or personal information — we only see anonymous, aggregate commission reporting. Buying through our links never changes the price you pay.
What we do NOT do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information — ever.
- We do not run advertising networks or behavioral ad tracking.
- We do not build profiles on visitors.
- We do not ask for or store payment information. All purchases happen on the retailer's site.
- We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Third-party sites
When you click through to a retailer, you leave our site and their privacy policy takes over. We have no control over how they handle your data, and we encourage you to read their policies.
Your choices and rights
- Email: ask us to delete your address at any time and we will.
- Cookies: you can block or delete affiliate cookies in your browser settings. The site still works — we just may not get credited.
- Analytics: Plausible collects no personal data, but browser "do not track" settings and ad blockers will also stop it.
- Access or deletion requests: email us and we'll handle it. Because we hold almost nothing, this is usually a very short conversation.
Changes to this policy
If we change how any of this works, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be noted on the homepage.
